Villa La Guacamaya is owned and operated by Bruce and Eva Landenberger. We fell in love with the area during our first visit in 1996 prompting us to leave Seattle, Washington and open La Guacamaya in December of 1999.
Bruce, a retired Boeing Commercial Aircraft Quality Assurance Inspector, is an avid rockclimber, mountaineer, musician, diver, kayaker, snorkeler, gardener and a fantastic cook. He is the creative inspiration for La Guacamaya.
Eva is a Family Nurse Practitioner with years of experience in Family Medicine, Cardiology and Critical Care. She is also a certified Advanced Diving Medical Technician. Eva spent five years in Brazil and speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish.
Both of us are interested, and involved in helping the local economy transition from subsistence fishing to ecotourism and to a more sustainable approach to harvesting the local resources. Recently, the reef around Xcalak and the lagoons behind it were made a National Park.
