Contact Us

Villa La Guacamaya is owned and operated by Bruce and Eva Landenberger. Because we are an ecotourism villa, in a remote and pristine area, we operate with the intention of protecting the local environment while making you as comfortable as possible.

We have 24 hour electricity thanks to a state of the art solar and wind system. We have a back-up gasoline generator. The water we use for bathing is rain water which we collect and treat in our giant below ground cisterns. During the dry season it is important to conserve water. We do have a well which we use for watering our plants and other sources of fresh water for emergency use. We separate and recycle that which it is currently possible to recycle in our area of Mexico.

We relocated to this area because of it's beauty and serenity. We have the utmost respect for the wildlife and natural resources. We ask that our guests share in this attitude towards mother nature and her creation.

We have the utmost respect for the wildlife and natural resources. If you get up early in the morning you will see a lot of beautiful wild birds right out the front door of the villa or you can take a very scenic tour to Bird Island by boat.
You can snorkel right out in front of the villa or you can go on a guided tour with local guides in a boat. We rent snorkel gear but encourage bringing gear for the children since we have a limited size selection

The diving in the area is world class. Adventuras Chinchorro to Xcalak is a full dive service with trips to local reefs as well as the awesome Chinchorro Banks, the Blue Cenote, and other spots.

If fishing is what you're interested in. The Yucatan' Peninsula is the #1 sailfish and marlin hotspot in the world. Four different tours are available. Local bone fishing and lobster catching is also a large attraction

Jungle tours are also available. Experience a variety of natural settings as you are led by experienced guides, on foot and in canoes, through savannah, lake, bush and jungle.

Xcalak has something to offer almost anyone. The local diving and snorkeling are phenomenal with a barrier reef located just 600 meters offshore. The renowned Chinchorro Banks, the site of hundreds of shipwrecks over past centuries, are just a short 1.5 hours away. The flyfishery is being developed with nice sized bonefish, permit and tarpon being caught. San Pedro, Belize, only 26 miles away, can be easily reached by panga in less than two hours. If the thought of all this activity sounds too strenuous, there is always a hammock nearby where you can relax and read that forgotten book or sip on your favorite beverage.

With the completion of the paved road from Majahual, it's easier than ever to get to Xcalak. Once you arrive, you'll find an ever widening range of accommodations in both different locations and varying price ranges. Xcalak, Quintana Roo - an awesome little village that's truly at the end of the road.

How's The Diving And Snorkeling?
The diving and snorkeling are one of Xcalak's main attractions and the reason that divers from all over the world come to this remote location situated about 6 miles from Belize. The second longest barrier reef in the world is about 600 meters offshore and both the diving and snorkeling are excellent. In addition, the heralded Chinchorro Banks are located about 1.5 hours away by boat.

Aventuras Chinchorro, Xcalak's only dive shop, is located just north of town. They are a fully equipped PADI dive facility and have long been the sole dive operator in Xcalak to offer consistent service to the Chinchorro Banks.

Are There Stores And Restaurants In Xcalak?
There are a handful of small stores in Xcalak that sell very basic foodstuffs. In addition, a truck from Chetumal arrives twice a week that sells fresh vegetables and other items. It's highly recommended that, if you're planning on cooking your own food and your tastes are higher than basic, you stop in either the Sam's Club or Walmart Superstore in Cancun or the grocery store in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

Depending on the time of year that that you arrive, there will probably be between three and six restaurants open in town. All are fairly small and have limited menus. Fresh fish is usually available along with local dishes and the prices are very moderate. Two of the resorts north of town also cook dinners and are open to the public if you make reservations in advance.

You should stop at a store on you way down to Xcalak and stock up on your basic food stuffs and any special meals you want to prepare.  It will cost less and you won't risk not being available to buy certain foods or ingredients.
